A) What's the purpose of the dimple? Why is it there?B) I think these have a mishmash of parts. One of the races has 'mongoose' stamped on it. The dimpled set has a 9-ball bearing paired with a 12-ball bearing.
The 1st generation Double-Pinched Redline Flightâ„¢ 2 Cranks are made in the USA. No-Wrap refers to how the pedal and spindle bosses are connected to the crank arm. No-Wrap cranks have the pedal and spindle bosses welded onto the crank arm. Double-Pinch refers to there being a two pinch bolts securing the spindle boss to the spindle.
Will both of these two BB set-ups work as shown? Does this ordering look somewhat correct?C) I don't have frame cups for either.
Will any cup work? Can I just go online to Ginny's and order some generic American BB frame cups? Or is it frame dependent? One is for a 81+/- Redline Pro-Line-II with a bb shell measuring 65mm wide. The other is for an 82/83 Hutch Expert Racer with the shell measuring 67mm wide.D) One of the arms had and extra washer/cup like thing inside the spindle boss.
This isn't necessary or even and original part of the cranks is it? (Shown in the middle of the smooth spindle pic next to the wrenches).Thanks. A) What's the purpose of the dimple? The dimpled spindle is the one you want. I'm not sure of the vintage of the other one but i don't think it's for full wrap 401's.the dimple is from when they welded the two pieces together during manufacturing. The outer sleeve had a hole and the weld was put in the hole and thats what leaves the dimple.standard bottom bracket cups will work but i think you need a complete spindle setup for one of your cranksets.
